The first of four league championships will be decided this weekend, and the Princeton women’s lightweight rowing team will head into Sunday’s Eastern Sprints with the momentum of back-to-back victories over the last week.

Princeton opened the weekend with a road win at Georgetown for the Class of 2006 Cup. Princeton, ranked third nationally, took the varsity eight race in 6:30.6, while Georgetown finished second in 6:34.1. Princeton also won the varsity four competition, as the Tiger A boat won in 7:29.7, while the B boat finished ahead of Georgetown in 7:39.3.

Princeton remains undefeated in this series over Georgetown, and it followed with a Monday victory over Bucknell, the 2012 Sprints runner-up, in a modified 1500-meter showdown on Lake Carnegie. Princeton finished the course in a winning time of 4:58.5, while Bucknell took second in 5:04.5.

Princeton has won six EAWRC Championships over the last 15 years, including its most recent championship in 2011. That Tiger boat, which included current senior captain Alex Morss ’13, produced a winning time of 6:30.39, which ended the six-year championship run of Wisconsin. The Badgers bounced back last season with a win, while Princeton was in the midst of a major rebuilding season.

Both Princeton and Wisconsin figure to be factors on Cooper River this Sunday, but neither will be the favorite. Top-ranked and unbeaten Harvard, whose lone Eastern championship came in 2004, will enter as the boat to beat. The Crimson defeated both Princeton and reigning IRA champion Stanford two weeks ago at the inaugural Collegiate Lightweight Invitational.
