McLean & Hopkins Earn Wins at Patriot Open Invitational
Fairfax, Va. (4/13/13) - The Princeton track & field teams compteed at the Patriot Open Invitational at George Mason today, Aprl 13.Sophomore Scott Rushton continues to improve every meet in the shot put. For the second consecutive meet, Rushton threw a personal best, throwing to 16.10 to finish in fourth place.
Junior Damon McLean won the long jump and had the top collegiate mark in the triple jump. McLean cleared 7.17 in the long jump, his first attempt at the event this outdoor season. He was second overall in the triple jump at 15.43, his best mark in the event this season.
Senior Isaac Serwanga, who recently rejoined the track team after competing on both the basketball and football teams this year, took third in the long jump. Serwanga reached 6.92. Freshman Jake Scinto had a top-10 finish as he jumped to 6.70. Sophomore Nana Owusu-Nyantekyi was eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.66.
Other top-10 finishers in the field events included junior Omar Jarrett in the high jump at 1.99 and junior Brad Pelisek in the javelin at 53.07.
On the track, junior Tom Hopkins posted a win in the 400. He ran 47.20, faster than 45 other sprinters. He led off on the 4x400 that took second as well. Joined by sophomore Daniel McCord, senior Tom Scott and senior Austin Hollimon, the relay clocked 3:12.86.
In the steeplechase, junior Garrett Rowe took fourth place and sophomore Connor Martin was fifth at 9:24.31 and 9:29.04, respectively.
A pair of top-10 finishes came in the hurdles as well. Sophomore Rob Mohr was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.55 while freshman Jordan Myers ran 53.91 in the 400 hurdles to take seventh.
Princeton hosts the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend, April 19 & 20 at Weaver Stadium.
