PRINCETON, N.J. (1/27/13) - Junior Andrew Calof had a four-point night to lead the Princeton men's hockey team to a 5-2 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday, Jan. 27 at Hobey Baker Rink. The game was the Tigers' first in two weeks, after finals break.

Calof's four points on one goal and three assists matches his career high. Freshman Mike Ambrosia also had a career night with two goals and one assist.

Princeton took a 4-0 lead with two goals in each the first and second periods. Sacred Heart scored twice within two minutes early in the third before the Tigers expanded their lead with a goal midway through the final period.

"I was proud of the guys and the way they came out," Princeton head coach Bob Prier said. "They came out really hard for not having been really able to battle against each other and have real practices the last couple of weeks. They came out and looked like they didn't miss a beat. I'm proud of them and it was nice to see them put up some goals. All-in-all, it was a good game."

Junior Alec Rush scored his first career goal to give the Tigers the lead at 13:49. He and junior Jack Berger played catch along the right boards before Rush ripped a shot from the top of the circle that made its way through traffic and into the back of the net. Senior Rob Kleebaum was credited with the secondary assist.

Ambrosia scored his first of two goals less than two minutes later as the Tigers capitalized on their first power-play opportunity. Senior Michael Sdao fed Calof the puck on the left board. Calof charged across the ice and put the puck in the slot for Ambrosia, who promptly put it behind netminder Steven Legatto. Legatto would make 15 saves in the first period but would be replaced by Andrew Bodnarchuk for the second and third periods.

Princeton got two past Bodnarchuk in the first 2:38 of the second period. Calof scored 1:11 into the period when he got a Tom Kroshus rebound and put it between the pad and right post. Sophomore Tyler Maugeri converted the Tigers' second power-play chance with help from Calof and Ambrosia 1:27 later.

At the end of two periods Princeton held a 31-10 advantage in shots.

Sacred Heart had a couple of breakaway chances in the third period, when it outshot Princeton 11-7. Princeton netminder Sean Bonar made an incredible save on the Pioneers best scoring chance of the game at 4:19 of the third when he made a kick save on a breakaway by Nick Curry. Will Raynor ended Bonar's bid for a clean sheet when he scored at 5:28. Chad Barthelmess made it a two-goal game when he and Brian Sheehan went 2x1 with a goal at 6:56.

Ambrosia put the game out of reach with his second of the game, sniping the puck between Bodnarchuk and the left post. Calof and Sdao assisted on the goal.

Bonar finished the game with 19 saves and Bodnarchuk had 18.

Princeton was 2 for 3 on the power play and 1 for 1 on the penalty kill.

The Tigers improve to 7-8-4 overall and return to ECAC action this weekend, traveling to Yale and Brown.
