Trailing 2-0 in a match her teammates desperately needed, sophomore Hallie Dewey mounted a major comeback against Harvard's Isabelle Dowling and helped the Tigers topple the reigning Ivy League and national champion.

Dewey, who has battled injuries throughout her first two years, dug herself out of a big early hole to win 5-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-6, and 11-9 at the No. 8 position. At the time, it was Princeton's third victory against the formerly unbeaten Crimson. Freshman Rachel Leizman fought off a match ball for the fourth win, and junior Alex Sawin capped the match with a 3-1 win at the No. 7 spot.

It was an impressive performance by Dewey, especially to head coach Gail Ramsay.

"Hallie has unfortunately been a little riddled with injuries over the last two years," Ramsay said. "I feel like she hasn’t been at her physical best, but coming back from a 2-0 deficit in that situation in that vital spot was quite impressive. That win will really add to her confidence."

Princeton is now off until Jan. 30, when the Tigers will host fifth-ranked Penn at 5 pm at the Jadwin Squash Courts. This has grown into one of the top rivalries in the nation, though the Quakers have had the best of it in the regular season recently. Penn has won four of the last five meetings during the season, including a 6-3 win in Philadelphia last season; Princeton, however, has won four of the last five matches played in Jadwin Gym, including a 7-2 quarterfinal win during the 2011 Howe Cup.

Penn will come into the match with a 1-1 record in league play, which includes a 6-3 home loss to Harvard. The Penn-Harvard competition included three matches that went five games, as well as three others that went four.
