Box Score & Play-by-Play: Game 1 | Game 2

Seventh inning rallies benefited and cost both teams Saturday as Princeton and Yale split a doubleheader in Connecticut.

Princeton did it first, scoring five runs in the seventh inning and quieting Yale in the bottom half of the inning to win 5-2 after the Bulldogs scored twice in the first. In the second game, each team scored a run in the fourth and Yale had three straight singles to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to win 2-1.

Skye Jerpbak was on base often Saturday, going 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI in the first game and 0 for 1 but with two walks in the nightcap in a game in which Princeton had just two hits.

With a run already in for Princeton in the top of the seventh of the opener but with the Tigers still trailing 2-1, Cara Worden had a bases-clearing double to put Princeton ahead 4-2. Princeton was a tough out in the inning, reaching batters on a walk, single, unsuccessful fielder's choice, hit batter, double and a single to plate five runs.

Yale did the same to Princeton in the bottom of the seventh of the second game, but with two outs. Princeton was one out away from pushing the game to extras when Yale had three straight singles, plus an extra base on a mishandled ball in the outfield, to win it and split the twinbill.

• There's a long way to go in the Ivy season and teams have played different numbers of games thanks in part to last weekend's weather interruptions, but the Tigers will have to come from behind in the Ivy South division. Columbia and Cornell co-lead the South at 4-2 with Penn a game and a half back at 1-2 and Princeton two back at 1-3. Columbia will head to Harvard tomorrow and Princeton to Brown in the only Ivy games Sunday.

• The Ivy North division has even greater disparity than the South with the four teams having played between one and eight league games. Dartmouth leads at 8-0, with Harvard undefeated but three and a half games back at 1-0. Yale hasn't had a game postponed but is seven back at 1-7, and Brown has yet to win an Ivy game but is one game ahead of Yale at 0-4.

• The Yale twinbill has proven a tough sweep in recent years. From 2009 forward, the annual doubleheader has seen now four splits, a 2010 Yale sweep of Princeton and a 2012 Princeton sweep of Yale.

Princeton will travel to Brown for a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader Sunday.
