PRINCETON, N.J. (3/20/14) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team looks to make it a West Coast sweep as the Tigers take on San Diego State for the first time on Saturday, March 22. The game will take place at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton started its West Coast trip with a 14-7 win over Southern California on Wednesday to improve the overall record to 3-3. Two of Princeton’s three losses were one-goal losses in overtime. Half of the opponents have been ranked.
Receiving votes in both national polls, the Tigers are led on offense by sophomore Alexandra Bruno. She has 13 goals and four assists for 17 points. A six-point effort by freshman Anna Doherty against USC moved her into second place in scoring with 13 goals and three assists for 16 points. Junior Erin Slifer also has 16 points on 10 goals and six assists. Junior Erin McMunn and freshman Olivia Hompe add 13 points, respectively. Senior Sarah Lloyd is the final Tiger in double figures with 11 goals and one assist. Slifer, McMunn and Lloyd are the team leaders in the center circle with 15, 12 and 11 draws, respectively. Lloyd is also the team leader in caused turnovers with seven, as well as ground balls with 11. Senior defender Colleen Smith has caused six turnovers as well and has seven draws and six ground balls. Junior Annie Woehling has started in goal in the last two games and is 2-0 with a .409 save percentage and a 10.10 goals against average. Senior Caroline Franke is 1-3 after starting the first four games of the season and has a .355 save percentage and a 12.03 GAA.
This is the first meeting between Princeton and San Diego State. The Aztecs are in their third-year as a varsity program.
SCOUTING THE AZTECS
San Diego State is 6-1 on the season with wins over Davidson, Winthrop, Cal, St. Mary’s, LIU and UC Davis. The team’s lone loss was to No. 7 Boston College 18-11.
Meris Walsh is the team’s leading scorer with 19 goals and one assist for 20 points. The 2013 leading scorer Michaela Jarvis has a team-best 10 assists and adds eight goals for 18 points. Lauren Maack, Bailey Ewing, Christina Ricciarduilli and Felice Artuso are right behind with 16, 15, 14 and 13 points respectively. Ricciardulli boosts the team with a team-leading 26 draws, is second caused turnovers with seven and is third in ground balls with 12. Grace Korandovich is the next best around the circle with 17 draw wins and a team-high eight caused turnovers. Freshman Katrina Reeves, who has taken over for the graduated Sammy Slattery, has started in six of seven games in goal and has a 10.47 GAA and a .427 save percentage.
