Slifer & Woehling Capture Weekly Honors
PRINCETON, N.J. (3/17/14) - Juniors Erin Slifer and Annie Woehling of the Princeton women's lacrosse team have both earned weekly honors. Slifer was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week while Woehling was named the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week.
Erin Slifer had a five-point game to lead Princeton to a 15-13 win over No. 6 Virginia on Saturday. Her five points matched her career-best as did the three assists she had in the game, in addition to scoring twice. Slifer scored on both her shots on goal, while being dominant in the center circle winning four draw controls and collecting two ground balls. Slifer scored at 17:34 of the first to give Princeton a 4-3 lead, made it 6-4 seven minutes later. She assisted on Princeton's first two goals of the second half as the Tigers went up 9-7 and assisted during Princeton's 4-0 run midway through the half as the team grabbed its largest lead 13-9.
Annie Woehling earned her first start of the season and made it count as she held off No. 6 Virginia. Woehling made nine saves as the Tigers defeated their first ranked opponent of the season. The Cavaliers had a tough time with Woehling and the Princeton defense as they had to get six of their goals on free-position attempts. Three of her nine saves came on free-position shots. With Virginia up by one Woehling made a huge save on a free-position to thwart the Cavs going up by two, something she made she they wouldn't do during the game.
The Tigers are in California this week on a spring break training trip and will face USC on Wednesday, March 19.
