Guided by an all-around team effort, the No. 9 Tiger women’s water polo team completed a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Princeton Invitational. Princeton capped off its undefeated tournament outing with a 17-4 win over the Virginia Military Institute Sunday.

Despite a very brief preseason, the Tigers played like a cohesive and well-orchestrated unit and outscored opponents 37-12 over the two-day invite.

Only three games into their collegiate careers and the freshmen are already making their mark. Hannah Lapkin led the offense with a team-best four goals and Morgan Hallock had a team-high three assists, while Sydney Saxe added two goals and an assist.

Junior Jessie Holechek and sophomore Kimi Klein each posted three goals apiece, and Ashley Hatcher finished with two goals and two assists.

Defensively, Ashleigh Johnson made six saves and allowed only one goal over her first half action and CeCe Coffey made her debut in the cage with four saves over the final two quarters.

It did not take long for Princeton to establish its pace, as the Tigers pounded the Keydet goal throughout the first half and went up 13-1 at the break.

Princeton slowed down over the second half, but remained in the driver’s seat to outscore VMI 4-3.

After enjoying opening the year at home, the Tigers will hit the road for an eight-game stretch featuring two top-20 opponents. Princeton heads to the Bucknell Invitational from Feb. 15-16, before traveling to the MAAC/CWPA Crossover from Feb. 22-23 at Harvard.
