The 10-time reigning Ivy League champion Cornell wrestling team opened 2013 Ivy schedule with a 42-0 victory over Princeton Saturday afternoon at the Friedman Wrestling Center.

While the loss sends Princeton to 0-8 overall, 0-1 in the Ivy League, there were a handful of positive experiences that can come from a match like this. The Tigers started five freshmen, including four who went up against Top 10 opponents.

Two went up against reigning national champions, and 184-pounder Scott Gibbons held 2012 NCAA champion Steve Bosak, currently ranked fourth nationally, to a 6-0 decision. Gibbons currently leads Princeton with 17 victories. Another freshman, Judd Ziegler, was not as fortunate. Going against arguably the best wrestler at any weight class, Ziegler was pinned in the first period by three-time NCAA champion Kyle Dake.

Both freshmen Max Rogers (125) and Kevin Moylan (141) also took on Top 10 opponents, and both were defeated.

Princeton did have a pair of close decisions midway through the match. Senior co-captain Zach Bitliff fell 5-3 at 149, while junior Seth Hazleton fell 8-5 at 157.

Princeton is now off for finals, and it will return to the mat Feb. 2 at 2 pm at Franklin & Marshall. Following that match, Princeton will host three duals at home the weekend of Feb. 8-9, including Ivy showdowns against Brown and Harvard.
