Former Princeton women's lacrosse player Anne Murray '09 has been named an assistant coach of the Tigers program, head coach Chris Sailer announced on Wednesday, June 20.

"I am happy and proud to welcome Anne back to Princeton as a member of the Tiger women's lacrosse coaching staff," Sailer said. "As an alumna of our program, Anne has a unique understanding of and a true love for Princeton and Princeton lacrosse. She knows what it takes to be a successful student-athlete here, having been part of four NCAA Tournament teams during her career. Most importantly, Anne lives and breathes the game of lacrosse and has an obvious passion for teaching and coaching."

Murray played attack for the Tigers for four years guiding her team to a 49-22 record. Princeton earned its way to the NCAA Tournament all four years, making it to the quarterfinal round three times, and was the Ivy League champion in 2006. During her career she played in 51 games scoring 19 goals and 10 assists for 29 points. She picked up 33 ground balls, won 18 draw controls and caused 16 turnovers.

"I want to first thank Chris Sailer, along with the Princeton Athletic Department and the University, for this opportunity," Murray said. "I can't even begin to explain how excited I am to be back at Old Nassau. This school and this program hold a very special place in my heart and I am thrilled to be a part of both again. These Tigers are an exceptional group of athletes and I look forward to working day in and day out with them along side Chris."

Murray comes to Princeton after serving as an assistant coach at Rutgers this past year. The Scarlet Knights posted a winning record of 9-7 in 2012. At Rutgers, Murray was charged with practice planning, scouting, recruitment and implementing game-day strategies. She directed drills at practice to help improve individual and team stick work, coordinated in-game substitutions and managed video of opponents and prospects.

Prior to her return to the Garden State, Murray was an assistant coach at Virginia Tech. She helped lead the Hokies to their first winning season in 10 years in 2011. She worked primarily with the defense, while also coordinating team travel, breaking down video and recruiting student-athletes. Murray implemented unified team strategies in practice, improving team and individual play as well as developing leadership and mental toughness within the team. Upon graduating from Princeton, Murray was hired as an assistant coach at Mount St. Mary's University.

She has been involved in working high school lacrosse clubs since 2007 and has worked at the Princeton Lacrosse Camps since 2006. Murray also was involved in various clinics and camps throughout the Philadelphia and New Jersey area.

"In the three years since her graduation, Anne has gained valuable Division I coaching experience while maintaining a constant connection to Princeton, returning each summer to coach all three Princeton lacrosse camps," Sailer said.  "At Princeton, she'll be involved in all aspects of coaching, recruiting, scouting and program management, with on-field emphasis on stick work development, shooting and attack play and working with the goalkeepers. Our players know, respect and look up to Anne, so it's a natural fit for us, and I'm looking forward to the many contributions Anne will make to Princeton lacrosse in the coming years."
