POTSDAM, N.Y. (2/15/13) - Seniors Kelly Cooke and Corey Stearns both had three-point games, to lead the Princeton women's hockey team to a 4-1 win over No. 7 Clarkson on Friday, Feb. 15 at Cheel Arena.

Princeton handed Clarkson just its second loss in the past seven games.

The win coupled with a loss by Colgate moves the Tigers into eighth place in the league standings, the final playoff position, with a 5-12-2 record and three games remaining.

Clarkson's Danielle Skirrow scored an unassisted goal midway through the first period in what would be the Golden Knights only goal of the night. Skirrow picked up a loose puck at the blueline, skated down the right side and deked a defender en route to the goal and fired a shot that went top shelf. Freshman netminder Kimberly Newell kept the Tigers alive making 14 saves in the first period as Princeton was outshot 15-6.

Cooke and Stearns teammed up for the game-tying goal at 4:34 of the second. Cooke fired a hard shot from the left boards in the only goal of the second period.

Cooke scored what would be the game winner at 3:42 of the third period, setting up three straight goals for the Tigers. Stearns and junior Sally Butler assisted on the goal.

Junior captain Denna Laing gave Princeton the two-goal lead at 17:40 as she knocked in an Olivia Mucha rebound.

Stearns sealed the win with an empty-net goals, as Clarkson pulled Howe for the extra attacker, with Cooke and sophomore Ali Pankowski earning assists with 1:35 left on the clock.

Howe finished the game with 18 saves, while Newell was cluth on the other end stopping 40 shots.

The Golden Knights fall to 23-8 overall and 15-4 in the ECAC, while Princeton improves to 10-14-2 overall.

Princeton faces St. Lawrence tomorrow, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. The Saints played to a 1-1 draw with Quinnipiac this evening.
