Mary Parker's rebound goal with 6:35 remaining in regulation pushed the fifth-ranked Harvard women's hockey team to a 3-2 win in a terrific ECAC showdown Friday night in Baker Rink. A very determined Princeton squad outshot the Crimson 24-23 on the evening, but it fell one goal short of pushing its Ivy rival to overtime.

Trailing 2-1 entering the third period, Princeton evened the score 2:35 into the final period when Brianna Leahy found a rebound off a shot from Rose Alleva and buried it past Emerance Maschmeyer for her sixth goal of the season.

That score added some energy for an already inspired Princeton team, which pushed the play for the next several minutes. A pair of penalties derailed that momentum, though; the Tigers fought off the first one, but they wouldn't have the same success the second time.

Sophomore goaltender Kimberly Newell did her best to keep the game tied, including saving a blistering shot from Sarah Edney from the blue line. The rebound went to Parker, who was stuffed once by Newell. The puck came back to Parker, who was able to lift it into the net for the go-ahead goal.

Newell came out for the final two minutes to give Princeton the extra-man edge, but Harvard blocked several shots before finally pushing the puck down to the Tiger side to clinch the win.

After a scoreless first period, Princeton took the lead 38 seconds into the second on a goal by Jaimie McDonnell, who took a pass from Ali Pankowski and fired on Maschmeyer. The first was saved, but McDonnell finished the play with a rebound to grab the 1-0 lead.

Harvard responded 15 seconds later with a one-timer from Sydney Daniels, and then took a 2-1 lead when Samantha Reber scored less than three minutes later.

Princeton will look to split the weekend Saturday at 4 pm when it hosts Dartmouth.
