PRINCETON, N.J. (12/4/13) - The Princeton women's hockey team resumes ECAC Hockey action as it hosts Rensselaer and Union this weeken, Dec. 6 & 7. Both games will be held at 4 p.m., at Hobey Baker Rink. Following Saturday's game with Union, the Tigers will host Skate with the Tigers.

EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton returns home after facing No. 1 Minnesota in a two-game series this past weekend. The Tigers are 5-6-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the ECAC. With nine points Princeton is sixth in the league standings.

Seniors Rose Alleva and Sally Butler are the team’s leading scorers. Defender Alleva has five goals and four assists for nine points, while Butler has one goal and team-high eight assists. Sophomore Jaimie McDonell is next on the list with eight points on three goals and five assists. Seniors Olivia Mucha, Denna Laing, Gabie Figueroa and freshman Cassidy Tucker chip in seven points apiece. Sophomore Kimberly Newell has started 12 of 13 games in goal. She has a 3.69 goals against average and an .893 save percentage.

PRINCETON/RENSSELAER SERIES
Princeton is 8-5-3 in the all-time series with Rensselaer since the teams first met in 2006. The teams split last season with Princeton taking a 6-5 game on the road before RPI won 4-3 at Baker Rink in the second game. It marked the Engineers first win the series in three years.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
Rensselaer is in the middle of a six-game road swing with a 6-8-1 overall record. The team most recently swept St. Cloud State on the road this past weekend and is riding a three-game win streak. With a 3-3 record in the ECAC the team is seventh in the standings, three points behind Princeton. RPI averages 2.07 goals per game and allows 2.00 gpg. The special teams average in the league with the power play 8th at 13.2% (10/76) and penalty kill 7th at 85.1% (57/67).

Senior Jordan Smelker sits atop the scoring column with nine points on two goals and a team-high seven assists. Freshman defender Heidi Huhtamaki also has seven assists and adds one goal for eight points. Junior Taylor Mahoney also has eight points on four goals and four assists. Junior Ali Svoboda and freshman Laura Horwood each contribute seven points apiece. Junior Kelly O’Brien has started in goal in all but one game. She has a .921 save percentage and a 1.94 GAA.

PRINCETON/UNION SERIES
Princeton is unbeaten in the all-time series with Union, at 19-0-1 since Union joined the ECAC in 2003-04. The scores have been getting closer lately in the series with Union getting its first point in the series with a tie in Schenectady last year before Princeton won a 3-0 game at home 20 days later.

SCOUTING THE DUTCHWOMEN
Union is tied for ninth in the ECAC standings with a 2-4 mark. The Dutchwomen are 5-9 overall and are playing in their first game in three weeks. Union split with Brown and Yale the last time out on Nov. 15 & 16. The Dutchwomen average 2.07 goals per game and allow 3.29 gpg. Their power play ranks fifth in the league at 17.7% (11/62), but the penalty kill is last at 68.6% (35/51).

Sophomore Courtney Turner and junior Christine Valente are the team’s leading scorers with 10 points each. Both have scored four goals and six assists. Seniors Stefanie Thomson and Maddy Thomson each have nine points on two goals and seven assists apiece. Junior defender Alex Tancrell-Fontaine leads the team in helpers with eight. Junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg has started in all 14 games. She has a 3.17 GAA and a .890 save percentage. THE COMING ATTRACTIONS Princeton will be dormant for the next four weeks as the first half of the season comes to a close this weekend. The Tigers resume play on Jan. 2 & 3 when they host Connecticut.
