PHILADELPHIA (11/9/13) - The Princeton men's soccer team had its Ivy League title hopes dashed as the Tigers lost a must-win-game at Penn, 2-1 tonight at Rhodes Field.

It was a battle of the two second-place Ivy League teams with title chances at stake. Penn, now 4-1-1 in the league will face Harvard next Saturday in what will decide the winner of the Ivy League and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Princeton falls to 3-2-1 in the Ivy League.

Junior Cameron Porter gave Princeton the 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when he knocked in a Brendan McSherry rebound.

After a series of corner kicks, Penn evened the game on a goal by Matt Poplawski in the 43rd minute. Louis Schott sent a pass across the box as a Princeton defender got tripped up with a Quaker. Poplawski was in a perfect position to collect the ball and pop it in on the right post.

The game winner came in the 61st minute from Sam Hayward. Forrest Clancy sent the ball to a streaking Hayward and he went far post to give Penn the 2-1 lead.

The Quakers were able to hold Princeton at bay as the Tigers outshot Penn 11-6 in the second half.

After making six saves in the first 48 minutes Tyler Kinn was taken out of the game after a collision left him with an injury. Max Polkinhorne, who hadn't seen playing time since Oct. 5, came in for the final 42 minutes and made four stops. Polkinhorne denied Porter his second goal around the 65th minute and stopped a bid by Patrick O'Neil in the 86th.

Princeton senior Seth MacMillan made three saves in goal.

Princeton outshot Penn 20-12 and took 12 corner kicks to Penn's four.

The Tigers host Yale in the season finale next Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m., on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium on Senior Day.
