Clarkson Edges Women's Hockey 2-1
After a scoreless first period that saw Princeton outshoot Clarkson 11-6, the teams traded goals in the second period with Clarkson striking first two minutes into the stanza. The goal came from Kali Gillanders after she took advantage of a Princeton turnover and scored from the top of the circles.
Princeton answered back at 8:33 of the period on Brianna Leahy's fifth goal of the season. Leahy found herself all alone in front of the net behind the Clarkson defense after a Charissa Stadnyk point shot was blocked, and scored with a shot over Clarkson goalie Erica Howe's shoulder. Clarkson outshot Princeton 10-6 in the middle 20 minutes, but the team went to the third period tied up at one goal.
Clarkson broke the tie in the final period when Styner converted while the teams skated four aside. Haily Wood took the initial shot from the blue line that was blocked and the rebound found Styner for the go-ahead goal.
Princeton outshot Clarkson 25-24 in the loss. Howe made 24 saves for the win, while Princeton's Rachel Weber made 22 saves in the loss. Neither team scored on four power-play chances.
Princeton is now 10-12-4 overall and 8-9-2 in league play. The Tigers remain in seventh in the ECAC standings, four points behind sixth-place Quinnipiac and six ahead of eighth-place. Princeton hosts St. Lawrence on Saturday at 4 p.m.
