CALGARY, Alta. - Rising junior Kimberly Newell has been invited by Hockey Canada to Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp. Joining Newell at the camp is Princeton assistant coach Cara Morey who was chosen as an assistant coach for the national development team earlier this month.

The camp will be held Aug. 8-17 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

The 42 players attending Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp will be split into two teams, which will participate in several practices and intrasquad games, as well as off-ice dryland training, fitness testing and high performance classroom sessions

From the selection camp, Hockey Canada will choose 22 players for a three-game series against the United States’ Women’s Under-22 Select Team, scheduled for Aug. 21-24 in Calgary, Alta.

This is the second consecutive summer that Newell has earned an invitation to the camp. She participated last year and was asked to be a part of the Canadian national women's program for the Canada's National Women's Program Red-White Series.

Newell earned a gold medal with the Canadian U-18 team at the 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship. She recorded her first international shutout against Finland in Dec. 2012. With Princeton this past season, the starting netminder finished with a 12-13-4 record, a .906 save percentage and a 2.74 GAA. She stopped a season-high 41 saves in a 2-2 tie with eventual national champion Clarkson on Feb. 8, and had nine 30+ save performances. In her career at Princeton she has a .911 save percentage, a 2.79 GAA and 21 30+ save performances, including a career-high 47 saves against Ohio State in 2012.
