PRINCETON, N.J. (1/30/13) - The Princeton women's hockey team heads into the final stretch of the ECAC Hockey schedule as it hosts Yale and Brown this weekend. The Tigers take on the Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m., and the Bears on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m.
Eye on the Tigers
Princeton returns to Hobey Baker Rink for the first time in nearly two months. The Tigers are 7-12-2 overall and recently defeated Penn State 3-0 this past Tuesday. Princeton is 2-10-2 in the ECAC. Seniors Corey Stearns and Kelly Cooke are a perfect balance in scoring. Stearns has 19 assists and four goals for 23 points. Cooke has 11 goals and six assists for 17 points. Junior Sally Buttler has scored six goals and six assists for 12 points. Sophomore Brianna Leahy is also in double digits in scoring with 10 points on six goals and four assists. Freshman Kimberly Newell is 6-10-2 in goal and has a .910 save percentage and a 3.13 GAA. Sophomore Ashley Holt is 1-2 making seven appearances in net with an. 862 save percentage and a 3.41 GAA.
Princeton owns a 55-11-2 edge in the all-time series with Yale that began on Dec. 8, 1979. The Tigers are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. Princeton won 7-1 and 5-1 last season.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Yale is 4-16-1 on the season and 3-10-1 in the ECAC to sit in 10th place along with eighth in the league standings with Colgate. The Bulldogs split last weekend, falling to Cornell and defeating Colgate 2-0 at home. Yale averages 1.33 goals per game and allows 3.10 gpg. Three rookies are the scoring leaders for the Bulldogs. Janelle Ferrara has six goals and six assists for 12 points. Defender Kate Martini has 11 points on three goals and eight assists. Jamie Hadded has a team-leading seven goals and three helpers for 10 points. Junior defender Tara Tomimoto matches Martini’s team-best eight assists and adds one goal for nine points. Sophomore Jaimie Leonoff has started in all but one game in goal for Yale. She has a .922 save percentage and a 2.93 GAA.
Princeton leads the series with Brown 36-29-2 since it began in 1980. The Tigers have won the last four games including 1-0 and 3-0 shutouts last season.
Scouting the Bears
Brown is tied with Princeton in the league standings with a 3-11 mark. Entering the weekend the Bears are 4-14-1 overall and dropped a pair of games last weekend to Colgate 4-3 and Cornell 4-2. Brown averages 1.63 gpg and allows 2.58 gpg. Senior Alena Polenska is the team’s leading scorer with 12 points on seven goals and five assists. Classmate Laurie Jolin has nine points on four goals and five assists. Sophomore Lauren Vella and junior Jessica Hoyle both have eight points, while sophomore Sarah Robson has seven. Junior Aubree Moore has a 2-9-1 record in goal with a .926 save percentage and a 2.12 GAA. Senior Katie Jamieson is 2-5 with a .906 save percentage and a 2.92 GAA.
