Box Score

The 10th-ranked Princeton field hockey team earned its first shutout victory of the year, topping Yale 2-0 Friday evening at Bedford Field. With the win, the Tigers extend their Ivy winning streak to 14 and improve to 5-2, 2-0 Ivy on the year.

The Princeton defense commanded the match, as the backline led by center back Julia Reinprecht and goalkeeper Anya Gersoff limited Yale to only five shots and three penalty corners. Gersoff (3-1) had two saves in the winning effort.

The Bulldogs had their best offensive chance on their first penalty corner in the 22nd minute. Georgia Holland’s shot found the back of the cage, but it would be ruled back because it chipped in off a Yale attacker’s foot.

Princeton responded a minute later, as Allison Evans artfully weaved through traffic to send in the go-ahead goal, 1-0, and eventual game-winner at 23:56.

The Tigers outshot the Bulldogs 25-5, with a 7-2 on goal differential, and had 16 penalty corners in the match.

Despite Princeton’s plethora of opportunities inside the circle, the Tigers were unable to connect again until the 56th minute. On a corner, Amanda Bird received the feed and sent the ball to an open Reinprecht outside the mouth of the cage. She put a perfect touch on it to redirect the ball and chip in an insurance goal.

Princeton will now prepare for a meeting with No. 3 UConn (7-0) on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
