McMunn Scores Five as Women's Lacrosse Rolls to an 18-11 Win Over Brown

PRINCETON, N.J. (3/9/13) - Sophomore Erin McMunn scored a career-high five goals to lead the Princeton women's lacrosse team to an 18-11 win over Brown in the Ivy League opener on Saturday, March 9 on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

McMunn also added one assist for a six-point effort. Junior Sarah Lloyd had a five-point game with three goals and two assists. She also led the team in ground balls with five. Senior Jaci Gassaway and freshman Anya Gersoff both had four-point games. Gersoff had three goals and one assist and added three caused turnovers. Gassaway scored once and assisted on three others. Senior Charlotte Davis matched her career-high with a hat trick, as did Erin Slifer who tallied two goals, three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Senior Caroline Rehfuss led the team in caused turnovers with four.

The win marks Princeton's 23rd consecutive win over Brown in the series, as the Tigers hand Brown it's first loss of the season and improve to 3-1.

Brown led by two goals early in the game as the Tigers took some time getting settled. Princeton went on an 8-1 run in the final 12:12 of the first half to take an 11-5 lead into the locker room.

Princeton continued to expand the lead and led by as much as nine goals after a three-goal run midway through the second half for a 16-7 lead.

Sophomore Annie Woehling and junior Caroline Franke split playing time in goal for Princeton. Woehling made one save in the first half, and Franke stopped two in the second half to improve her season record to 2-0.

Princeton outshot Brown 31-21 and won the ground ball battle 21-10. The Bears had an 18-12 edge in draw controls.

Brown got four goals from its leading scorer Bre Hudgins. Abby Bunting had a hat trick and Lindsay Minges scored twice. All 11 of Brown's goals were unassisted, as the Bears were 2-for-6 from the eight meter. Kellie Roddy made six saves in goal for the Bears.

Princeton will be on the road for the next two games. The Tigers face Virginia on Saturday, March 16 at 12 p.m.
