As she has done throughout her career, Princeton field hockey striker Kathleen Sharkey has consistently found a way to score. This season the senior is the national Division I leader in goals per game with 2.11 per match, behind an astonishing 19 goals over nine games. Her scoring prowess also tops her as the nation's point leader with 43. In addition to getting it done on the scoreboard, she's also helped set up scoring drives with five assists on the year.

While this season's numbers are already staggering, this is not a breakout season by any margin. Rather Sharkey has steadily developed into a leader both with the Tigers and in the country over her three-year starting career, as she has led the nation in scoring before.

Since she stepped onto campus it seemed she was on pace to at least land in the top-10 all-time career scoring list, a feat she rarely reflects on, but for the Pennsylvania native she has one-upped that notion. As a junior in 2010, she concluded the year with 69 goals, three behind the all-time career record. It only took one game for Sharkey to eclipse former record holders Ilvy Friebe '03 and Kirsty Hale '99, as she tallied a hat trick in her return to the pitch at Duke on Aug. 31.

Sharkey, who spent the last year training with the U.S. Senior National Team, has scored at least one goal in seven of Princeton's games thus far. She has six multi-goal games, scoring three goals or more on four occasions.

This season Sharkey also moved into first in the all-time career points category for Princeton with 203, truly cementing her outstanding career with the program. Of course Sharkey has time to build on her current stats, as the Tigers have eight more regular season games remaining beginning with No. 4 Maryland tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.
