The Princeton Field Hockey team held their annual banquet this past weekend at Prospect House to celebrate its 2011 Ivy League Championship season. At the banquet, the program recognized the contributions of several players and the team was again honored for winning their 20th Ivy title.

Head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn presented the senior class the Emily Goodfellow '76 Award, acknowledging the contributions of Allison Behringer, May-Ying Medalia, Rachel Neufeld and 2011 team captains Alyssa Pyros and Erin Jennings to the program during their four year careers. 

"This was a no-brainer for us," said Holmes after the event. "These young women have each brought something unique and special to our environment during their time as Tigers. This award is an opportunity to recognize their considerable talents. Just as Emily Goodfellow did when she was a Tiger, Alyssa, Erin, Allison, May-Ying and Rachel have represented this program and University with distinction and we deeply appreciate their efforts."

The program also established a new award this year, the Mari J. Schleuning P07 Award, named for the mother of assistant coach Nate Franks '07 who passed away during the 2006 field hockey season. The award was created via the Mari J. Schleuning Field Hockey Endowment fund to recognize a current Tiger and an alumna who have shown a passion and commitment to service. Allison Behringer '12 and Holly McGarvie '09 were the inaugural recipients of the award. Behringer was recognized for her involvement with the Princeton International Internship program, where she worked at an orphanage in India and a primary school in South Africa. McGarvie earned the honor for her work with Teach for America as a 10th grade biology teacher at Ballou High School in Washington, D.C., in addition to playing for the US Women's Lacrosse National Team.

"Holly and Allison left their mark on Princeton as athletes, enjoying tremendous on-field success," said Franks. "But their work off the field serving underprivileged communities has been truly remarkable. It's a pleasure as a representative of Princeton Field Hockey and as a representative of my mother to present them with the first Mari J. Schleuning P07 Awards."
