2013 Schedule

Princeton field hockey head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn has released the 2013 schedule, it was announced Monday. The 2012 national champions host eight home contests at Bedford Field and are scheduled to face five teams that participated in last season’s NCAA tournament.

The Tigers’ title defense begins at home on Friday, Sept. 6 versus Duke, opening up a four-game home stand featuring Fairfield (Sept. 7), Michigan State (Sept. 13) and NCAA quarterfinalist Penn State on Sept. 15.

The Ivy League slate commences with Dartmouth on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Hanover, N.H. The Big Green were the only conference opponent to score against the Tigers in 2012, as Princeton outscored league foes 45-1.

Princeton’s only blemish in its historic run to its first NCAA title was at the hands of national semifinalist Syracuse, a 2-0 loss at Bedford Field. This time the two squads will meet on Sunday, Sept. 22 in New York.

On Friday, Sept. 27 the program will host a Bedford Field dedication ceremony prior to its match versus Yale at 7 p.m.

Two days later Princeton will travel to Storrs, Conn. for a meeting with NCAA quarterfinalist UConn, before returning home to host Columbia on Friday, Oct. 4.

A rematch of the NCAA semifinals is set for Friday, Oct. 11 in College Park, Md. versus Maryland, setting up a five-game road swing. Stops at Delaware (Oct. 13), Brown (Oct. 19), Harvard (Oct. 26) and NCAA participant Albany on Oct. 27 close out the three-week span.

Princeton will conclude the regular season home slate with a pair of games versus Cornell (Nov. 2) and Rider (Nov.3). Prior to their match versus the Broncs, the Tigers will host their annual Senior Day ceremony honoring the Class of 2014.

The regular season will officially conclude at Penn on Saturday, Nov. 9, with Princeton looking to capture its ninth consecutive Ivy League title and 19th in the last 20 seasons in the process.

The NCAA tournament will commence with the NCAA Play-In Game on Tuesday, Nov. 12, followed by the first and quarterfinal rounds on Nov. 16-17.

The NCAA Final Four will return to Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. from Nov. 22-24, the site of Princeton’s 2012 national championship victory over North Carolina, 3-2.

The Tigers went 21-1, 7-0 Ivy in 2012, tallying nine shutout victories and outscoring opponents 102-78. Princeton defeated 11 nationally ranked teams, including then-No. 1 North Carolina in the NCAA championship game.
