One year was long enough to be away from the Fosburgh Cup. The Princeton men's lightweights moved to 2-0 on the season and reclaimed the Cup with a nearly eight-second victory over the Hoyas.

It was extra sweet for a lightweight squad that had fallen three times in four tries to Georgetown last season. One of those losses came in the Fosburgh Cup regatta, which sent the trophy to D.C. for the first time since its inception in 2005.

Princeton made it eight wins over the last nine years during this particular regatta Saturday morning in a finish of 6:08.8, while Georgetown finished second in 6:16.4. That victory highlighted a perfect Tiger day; both the 2V (6:25.1) and the 3V (6:41.5) topped the Georgetown second varsity (6:47.0), and the Princeton freshman eight (6:21.1) improved its season mark to 2-0 with a 12.2-second victory over the Hoyas.

"Today's results were indicative of a group that continues to mature every week," head coach Marty Crotty said. "With our season laid out the way it is, you have to keep improving from week to week and adding elements to your races to stay ahead. [Assistant coach] Mike Lombardi and I asked the guys to work extremely hard this week in order to improve upon our effort against Navy, and I think we achieved that today. The guys are thrilled to have the Fosburgh Cup back in the boathouse."

Princeton will get two weeks before it makes its 2013 Ivy League debut at the Cayuga Inlet, where it will compete in the historic 50th Platt Cup regatta against Cornell. The Big Red regained the Cup in Princeton's closest race of the 2012 season; the Tigers fell by .3 of a second to the Big Red on Lake Carnegie.

The Tigers have already returned one Cup to the Shea Rowing Center, though, and they'll eagerly await another opportunity in their first road test of the season on April 13.
