Princeton senior saberist Eliza Stone placed seventh overall and second among Americans over the weekend at the Challenge Yves Brasseur as she prepared for the Ivy League Championship this weekend.

Stone made the quarterfinals in a field that began with 156 fencers in Ghent, Belgium. In the direct elimination portion of the competition, Stone defeated Ukraine's Galyna Pundyk 15-13 in the round of 64, China's Xiaodong Chen 15-12 in the round of 32, and Italy's Ilaria Bianco 15-10 in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Stone lost 15-10 to fellow American Mariel Zagunis, an Olympic gold medalist in saber in 2004 and 2008, who went on to win the tournament.

Stone was the top U.S. collegiate fencer at the event with Zagunis, 27, as the only American in front of her. The Princeton senior will rejoin her Tiger teammates this week as they prepare for the Ivy League round-robin event at Harvard this weekend.
