Anna Van Brummen, second from left, and Katharine Holmes, far right, were among the Princetonians fencing in Slovakia over the weekend.

Princeton sophomore Katharine Holmes and freshman Anna Van Brummen were among the Tiger competitors Sunday at the Memorial de Martinengo Epee World Cup in Bratislava, Slovakia, both seeing their names high on the results list.

Van Brummen racked up 26 points during the competition, good for second place overall and first among Americans, second only to Russian Violetta Khrapina. Katharine Holmes was eighth overall and second among Americans, earning 14 points.

Holmes had the 31st seed in the Round of 64 during the direct elimination portion of the tournament, first defeating Princeton teammate Isabel Ford in that round before upsetting the No. 1 seed, Anna Slminen of Finland before taking down 16th-seeded Nicol Foietta of Italy to reach the quarterfinal. Her run ended there, as Hungary's Reka Bohus won 15-12.

Van Brummen had the No. 5 seed and faced lower-seeded opponents until she got to the quarterfinal. There, she beat Poland's Jagoda Zagala 15-13 and avenged teammate Holmes' loss to Bokus with a 15-9 win in the semis. The final round went to Khrapina, 15-14.

Complete results can be found here. The Tigers will resume their season on Dec. 1 at the Vassar Duals.
