Mucha's Tally Not Enough for Women's Hockey Against St. Lawrence
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/23/13) – The Princeton women’s hockey team fell to St. Lawrence, 4-1, Saturday, Nov. 23 at Hobey Baker Rink.
Senior Olivia Mucha tallied the Tigers only goal 8:26 into the opening period to momentarily tie the contest, 1-1. Mucha's fifth goal of the season came on her powerful shot from the left circle. Freshman Cassidy Tucker and senior Sally Butler picked up assists as they helped corrall the puck in the corner.
Mucha’s score evened the game after Abbey McRae put St. Lawrence up 1-0 less than 90 seconds into the action. The Saints then regained the lead on a Mel Desrochers power-play goal with 1:14 remaining in the first period. The senior defender’s five-on-four finish came on the heels of the Tigers killing a Saints five-on-three advantage.
St. Lawrence (6-7-1, 5-2-1 ECAC) extended its lead at the end of the second period when Kayla Raniwsky found the back of the net with 1:09 remaining in the session. The Saints later added insurance with less than three minutes left in the third thanks to another power-play goal by Brooke Webster. The visitors were 2 for 7 on their power-play opportunities, while Princeton came up empty on its two power plays.
Although St. Lawrence held a 31-28 advantage in shots for the game, the Tigers played their best in the final frame and outshot the Saints, 13-10, in the third period. Both Kimberly Newell and Carmen MacDonald made 27 saves in their respective nets.
Princeton (5-4-1, 4-4 ECAC) looks to rebound from its loss at home on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. against No. 5 Quinnipiac (10-2-4, 3-2-3 ECAC) at Hobey Baker Rink.
