Women's Cross Country Resumes Action This Friday
PRINCETON, N.J. (9/26/12) - The Princeton women's cross country team returns to action after a two-week hiatus on Friday, Sept. 28. The team will split off, sending its A group to the Notre Dame Invitational while the rest of the team competes at Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational.
With a lull in the action, Princeton is now receiving votes in the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association week #3 national poll.
Princeton will race in the Blue Race on the Notre Dame Golf Course. The 5k race is set to start at 4:15 p.m. The Tigers will compete in the Brown Race at Paul Short. The 6k race is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., on the Goodman campus.
Princeton finished eighth of 28 in the Blue Race at Notre Dame last season. Alex Banfich '12 led the team with a 13-place finish covering the 5k course in 17:19. Senior Alexis Mikaelian ran in at 17:47 followed four seconds later by classmate Greta Feldman. Sophomore Andrea Keklak ran 17:53 in her first big collegiate race, and senior Mel Newbery rounded out the scoring with a time of 18:14.
At the 2011 Paul Short Run, Princeton had seven runners compete in the open women's 6k. Leading the Tigers was sophomore Rachel Skokowski who posted a time of 22:41 to finish 19th out of 341 competitors. Sophomore Gina Talt was three seconds back at 22:44 and senior Abby Levene ran 23:30. Junior Katie Skinner and senior Abby Hewitt finished four seconds apart at 23:42 and 23:46.
