STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (9/8/12) - The Princeton women's cross country team opened the season with a second-place finish at the Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The Tigers earned 52 points and had an average time of 21:56 on the 6k course.All five scorers finished in the top 20.
Sophomore Emily de La Bruyere was the top Tiger across the line finishing in fifth place at 21:29. Senior Mel Newbery was ninth at 21:49. Sophomore Jackie Nicholas and junior Molly Higgins crossed together in 11th and 12th with times of 22:05 and 22:06, respectively. Kathryn Fluehr was the final scorer, taking 15th at 22:10. Other runners finishing the 6k in under 23 minutes was junior Marisa Cummings, senior Abby Hewitt and senior Alexis Mikaelian.
Penn State won the meet with 25 points, with Navy third followed by West Virginia and Ohio University in fourth and fifth.
Princeton will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 28 when it races at the Notre Dame and Paul Short Invitationals.Princeton Finishers
