PRINCETON, N.J. (9/7/12) - The Princeton cross country teams get the 2012 season underway this weekend as they hit the Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State.
The Penn State course will also serve as the site of this year's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
The women's 6k kicks off the day at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 5.2 mile run at 10:45 a.m. The starting and finishes lines are located on the west side of campus, across Atherton Street from Rec Hall.
The Princeton women's team is ranked No. 15 in the preseason national poll. Taking on the 6k will be seniors Alexis Mikaelian and Greta Feldman who were all-region last year. Feldman later went on to earn All-America honors in the outdoor 1500 and competed in the US Olympic Trials in the event. Junior Molly Higgins, junior Marissa Cummings and sophomore Jackie Nicholas have each been Regional and Heps scorers. Others looking to make a big impact on the first meet of the season are senior Mel Newbery, junior Katie Skinner and sophomore Emily de la Bruyere.
The Tiger men are ranked No. 21 in the national preseason poll. The Tigers finished 19th at the NCAA Championships last year and return three of the five scorers from the championship meet, including team captain and junior Chris Bendtsen, junior Tyler Udland and sophomore Eddie Owens. The team also brings back regional scorer Alejandro Arroyo Yamin as well as second-team All-Ivy runner Matt McDonald. Others looking to bring points to the team are seniors Michael Franklin and Max Kaulbach, junior Jonathan Vitez and sophomores Connor Martin and Sam Pons.
Competing teams include Delaware (women), Georgetown (men), Navy, Ohio Sate, Rutgers (women), St. Francis, St. Joseph's and West Virginia (women).
