The Princeton open rowing team will enter the upcoming season as the two-time defending Ivy League champion, but it will also have several holes in each of its top boats after the graduation of a deep and talented Class of 2014.

Head coach Lori Dauphiny hopes that several of them will be filled by a class that also looks to be both deep and talented, even if it won't have the immediate experience of that outgoing senior class.

Dauphiny recently announced her Class of 2018, which included three rowers (Melissa Curtis, Riley MacAulay and Erica Swartwout) who rowed together in the women's eight at the recent Junior World Championships (Aug. 1-8) in Hamburg, Germany. The trio comprised three of the four bow seats, and they led the American eight to the A final.

"While we had not been together for long, we quickly sensed a strong bond between each other, Swartwout said. "As the summer progressed and we became closer, the entire boat’s chemistry strengthened. Most of our training took place at the Shea Boathouse, so Princeton Rowing was quite a popular topic of discussion. We even sent out a group email to Coach Lori when we found out that we made the World’s Team."

"I loved having two of my future teammates in my boat," MacAulay added. "Somehow, all three of us ended up in bow 4 too, so the 8+ had a high concentration of Tiger pride. While training at Princeton, it was wonderful getting to be out on Lake Carnegie, rowing in such nice conditions, and it made me super excited for what is to come."
