The No. 10 Princeton women’s water polo team extended its winning ways with a weekend sweep at the LMU Zumo Invite to wrap up its Southern California road trip Saturday. On the final day of the tournament, the Tigers collected a pair of dominating wins over Sonoma State, 14-3, and Cal State San Bernardino, 18-4.

The victories improved Princeton to 21-1 on the year and prolonged its win streak to six straight. The Tigers now return to the East Coast to open their Southern Division slate, beginning next Saturday, Mar. 29 versus Mercyhurst and Bucknell.

For the third straight game the Tigers limited their opponent to three goals or less, as the defense proved too much for Sonoma State.

Ashleigh Johnson posted eight saves and a shutout second quarter over her three quarters of work, as she combined with CeCe Coffey in the cage.

As the defensive line limited the Seawolves, the offense posted its fourth double figure victory of the season. Princeton would make it five double digit wins later in the day versus CSUB.

Hat tricks by Kelly Gross and Diana Murphy led an eight-Tiger scoring contingent that jumped out to an 8-1 halftime advantage. Sonoma State was unable to close in and the Tigers outscored the Seawolves 6-2 over the second half.

The Tigers kept rolling in their tournament finale behind another high scoring effort versus Cal State San Bernardino.

The Coyotes scored twice in both the first and second quarters, but goalies Coffey and Johnson would combine for a shutout second half en route to the lopsided victory.

Coffey earned her second win of the year over her 28-minute outing and tallied nine saves.

On the offensive end Ashley Hatcher, Katie Rigler and Pippa Temple scored three goals apiece to pace the effort, while Hannah Lapkin’s three steals led Princeton’s 16-steal outing.
