Senior Maureen McCotter, a five-time Ivy Championships finalist, talks about the challenges of distance swimming, her thoughts on a final H-Y-P weekend, and the excitement of moving into the championship month of the swimming & diving season. See the video by clicking the link above.

Official practices started in October for the reigning Ivy League champion Princeton women's swimming and diving team, and the Tigers haven't had many opportunities to compete over the last three months. Of course, all the work that was done over the first three months will show in February, which opens with the annual H-Y-P weekend.

Princeton is 3-1 this season, though it shined in its biggest early meet of the season, the 2013 Big Al Open. The reigning Ivy League champion defeated a pair of Ivy rivals in the meet, though it will take on its two most historic rivals this weekend.

While the stakes won't be nearly as high as they will be three weeks later, when all eight league teams travel to Harvard for the 2014 Ivy Championships, the rivalry and excitement in Kiphuth Pool will ensure an exciting meet. The meet will take place over two days, starting Feb. 1 at 6 pm. The meet concludes Super Bowl Sunday at noon.

Of course, the talent certainly won't hurt the meet either. Several of the league's best performers will be in competition, including Princeton senior Lisa Boyce, who has won seven of nine Ivy League individual titles. An All-America last season, Boyce owns the Ivy's best time currently in the 50 free (22.33), the 100 free (48.91), the 100 back (53.25), and the 100 fly (52.76).

Princeton freshman Olivia Chan will be experiencing her first H-Y-P weekend, and she has Top 2 Ivy times in both the 200 breast (2:16.89) and the 200 IM (2:01.86).

The host Yale Bulldogs have arguably the league's best distance swimmer in sophomore Eva Fabian, who owns the Ivy's best times in the 500 (4:47.86), the 1000 (9:49.17) and the mile (16:15.33). Freshman Isla Hutchinson-Maddox owns the Ivy's top time in the 200 fly, though she and Princeton sophomore Nikki Larson are the only two league swimmers to have achieved a B-cut already this season.

Harvard, which won the H-Y-P meet last season before finishing behind Princeton at the Ivy Championships, has Ivy top times in the 200 free (Victoria Chan, 1:46.80) and the 200 back (Danielle Lee, 1:57.36).

Following the H-Y-P meet, Princeton will honor its Class of 2014 during Senior Day on Friday, Feb. 6, against Columbia.
