Matija Pecotic ended his Princeton career Thursday in his second straight NCAA singles championship appearance.

Yanick Hanfmann of USC defeated Princeton senior Matija Pecotic 6-4, 6-1 in the Round of 32 at the NCAA singles championship Thursday, ending the Tiger's outstanding career.

"I really thought Hanfmann played a great match and didn't give us many opportunities," Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "We didn't quite handle the windy conditions as well and missed on the chances we had. Nonetheless, nothing can detract from the amazing career Matija had at Princeton. He will go down as one of our finaest players and exemplifies that type of committment, hard work and character we want our program to exude."

Pecotic, ranked 15th in the country, battled in the first set with Hanfmann, ranked 45th, tying him at 3-3 and pulling within 5-4 before the Trojan won the set. Hanfmann opened up a 4-0 lead in the second set before winning two of the last three games to take the match.

Pecotic, the first three-time Ivy League Player of the Year in league history, was making his second straight appearance in the NCAA singles championship. With his first-round win Wednesday, he became the first Tiger men's player since Reed Cordish '96 in 1996 to win an NCAA singles match, and the first Ivy Leaguer since Harvard's Jonathan Chu in 1995.
