After six seasons coaching at Oregon State, former Michigan All-America rower Kate Maxim has joined the Princeton open crew coaching staff. She replaces Kristin Haraldsdottir '08, who will attend graduate school at Wisconsin this fall.

"We are very excited to welcome Kate Maxim to Princeton," said head coach Lori Dauphiny, who led the Tigers to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships last year. "She has done an outstanding job at Oregon State and has much to offer our program. She is enthusiastic and ready to make an impact here."

Maxim helped develop Oregon State into a national program by developing the novice crews each season. Her boat finished in the Top 5 at the Pac-10 Championships each season, including a best finish of second during the 2011 season.

"I am absolutely thrilled about this opportunity and I am so thankful to Lori for inviting me to become a part of the Princeton program," Maxim said. "I’m really looking forward to growing and learning from the staff and from competing in the Ivy League.

"I hope my passion for the collegiate rowing experience, my work ethic, and my love for a challenge will contribute to Princeton’s tradition of success," Maxim said. "Competing as a collegiate athlete was one of the most empowering experiences of my life, and as a coach I strive to pay that forward to the next generation of women rowers."

Maxim had an especially impressive collegiate career at the University of Michigan, where she rowed for current Oregon State head coach Emily Ford. Her teams finished in the top eight at the NCAA Championships all four seasons, which included a second place team finish in 2001. As a senior, Maxim led the Michigan varsity eight to a second-place finish in the NCAA Championships grand final.

Along the way, Maxim was part of a team and boat that earned three Big Ten Championships and a member of the All-Big Ten team in 2003. As a senior, Maxim was the U-M Athlete of the Year for women's crew, as well as an All-America. She was a three-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar and a four-time University of Michigan scholar athlete.

Maxim is a 2003 graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in English and completed her law degree in the summer of 2009.

Maxim now joins a Princeton program that has won two NCAA varsity eight championships in the last seven years, as well as 23 straight Ivy League races and the 2012 team points title at the inaugural Ivy League Championships. Princeton also had five open crew alumni compete in the 2012 London Games, including gold medalist Caroline Lind '06 (USA 8+) and silver medalists Andréanne Morin '06 and Lauren Wilkinson '11 (Canada 8+).
