Princeton women's lightweight head coach knew he had an extremely young roster this season, and knew it would be a year full of learning experiences. The Tigers had one such experience Saturday, losing at Bucknell for the first time in the regular season.

Princeton, which had only previously lost to Bucknell at the IRA Championships, was coming off a strong performance at the San Diego Crew Classic. However, the host Bison knocked off Princeton Saturday morning in the Tigers' first competition in the East. Princeton finished in 7:19.2, but Bucknell crossed the line in 7:16 for the win.

"This was a challenging course to race on and I thought our crew handled it well," Rassam said. "I was pleased with the way we worked back from a pretty large early deficit to make the race very competitive through the middle 1000m. Hats off to Bucknell. They rowed an aggressive, composed piece and deserved the win. Our crew is eager to learn from the race and continue to make forward progress."

Rassam has been pointing towards a strong improvement throughout the season, and he'll get another chance to see that improvement next weekend when the Tigers head to Cooper River for the Knecht Cup.

He was also pleased with his novice eight, which dropped a tough race to an open freshman boat from Bucknell.

"Our novice eight fought hard against a solid freshmen openweight boat from Bucknell," Rassam added. "Coach Tom Paulett is doing a nice job of developing his novice crew."

Varsity Eight
1) Bucknell – 7:16.0
2) Princeton – 7:19.2
