BOX SCORE

Heading into Friday night's home showdown with No. 10 Penn State, the Princeton men's volleyball team did exactly what it needed to do against Rutgers-Newark Tuesday night. The Tigers began their first win streak of the season and saw solid play throughout its roster in a 3-0 home win over the Scarlet Raiders.

Princeton improved to 3-6 overall, 2-1 in the EIVA, with the 25-19, 25-13, 25-22 victory over Rutgers-Newark (4-6, 0-4). Junior Cody Kessel had a match-high 11 kills and hit .474 for the match, while senior tri-captain Jeff Stapleton came off the bench and recorded 10 kills over two sets and hit a match-best .692 in the win.

Ten different players recorded at least one kill, including Will Siroky, who had four kills without an error. Siroky and freshman middle Junior Oboh both had three blocks for the Tigers, while senior Pat Schwagler and freshman Chris Kennedy both had a team-best four digs. Reserve libero Bar Shabtai added three digs, while sophomore Michael Bagnell came off the bench for three kills and zero errors.

Head coach Sam Shweisky saw efficient play from both setters as well. Senior Davis Waddell started and recorded 11 assists, while Kennedy had 19 in the final two sets. Princeton hit at least .333 in each set, and it hit .579 (12-1-19) in a dominant middle set.

The Tigers will now face 15-time reigning EIVA champion Penn State Friday night at 7 pm in the second match of a six-match homestand. The match, like each home one this season, will be streamed live on the Ivy Digital Network.
