HANOVER, N.H. (2/1/14) – Senior Sean Bonar matched his career-high with 43 saves as the Princeton men’s hockey team lost a 5-3 game at Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The Tigers beat Dartmouth twice in overtime during the regular season, but couldn’t go for the perfect sweep after trailing 4-0. Princeton made it game scoring three straight goals in the second period with three different goal scorers, but the Big Green added a tally in the third for the 5-3 final.

Senior defender Alec Rush scored his third goal of the weekend, ripping a shot from the right point to put Princeton on the board at 6:57 of the second. Sophomore Jonathan Liau and senior Andrew Ammon earned the assists. Rush had an initial shot from the same location that rebounded to the corner. Ammon battled for the puck and sent it up the ice to Liau who sent a cross-ice pass to Rush for the goal. Rush entered the weekend with four career goals.

The Tigers added two goals in 1:16 to make it a one-goal game.

Junior Tyler Maugeri went end-to-end after stripping a Dartmouth player of the puck along the boards and skating up the right flank, sweeping into the slot and nailing a goal past James Krueger at 14:12.

Andrew Calof scored his first goal in 10 games, lifting a shot from inside the left circle on a knee. Ryan Siiro got a puck that Mike Ambrosia banked off a Dartmouth’s players skate at the top of the circle and pushed it over to Calof for the score at 15:28.

Jesse Beamish tallied his second of the night on Dartmouth’s third power-play goal of the game at 9:06 of the third period on an unfortunate turn of events. Beamish’s shot from just inside the blue line was stopped by the right pad of Bonar, but trickled under it and slowly over the goal line.

Grant Opperman started the scoring at 5:57 as Dartmouth converted on its first power-play opportunity. Opperman picked up a Ryan Bullock rebound and was able to slip it between the right post and shoulder Bonar.

Bonar made a highlight reel save at 12:03 on a shot by Brad Schierhorn.

The Big Green expanded the lead with two goals in three minutes. Bullock scored himself at 13:58 when he and Brandon McNally had a 1-2 play in the slot and Beamish scored on a scrum at 16:45.

Dartmouth converted on the power play again, this time 45 seconds into the second period. McNally was on the doorstep to tip in a shot from the left point by Neiley.

Krueger made 17 saves in goal for Dartmouth as the Big Green outshot the Tigers 48-20.

Princeton returns home to Hobey Baker Rink hosting St. Lawrence and Clarkson next weekend, Feb. 7 & 8.
