Vivek Dinodia and Michael LeBlanc were in high school when Princeton made its dramatic run to the 2012 Ivy League and national team championships. David Hoffman was on the sideline, watching his varsity teammates win one dramatic match after another.
On Saturday, those three played a critical role in continuing the 2012-13 Tigers' push towards both titles. All three won their individual matches in a 6-3 road win at No. 4 Yale.
Princeton moved to 8-0 overall, 4-0 in the Ivy League, with the victory at the Brady Squash Center. The Tigers would love nothing more than another unbeaten weekend at Brady, which will serve as host of the CSA national team championships in three weeks.
But the Ivy League title is the more immediate goal, and Princeton will continue its push towards a second straight league crown on Super Sunday when it takes on Brown at 2:30 pm.
Princeton led 2-1 after the opening shift, which included the win for LeBlanc at No. 9 and a victory for sophomore Tyler Osborne at No. 3. LeBlanc had to go extra points in both his two final games, but closed it out with 13-11 and 12-10 wins. Osborne won three tight games, including a 13-11 win in the middle.
Yale evened the match at 3-3 in the second shift, though Princeton got a crucial win from Dinodia at No. 8 to keep the match all square heading into the final shift. After splitting the first two games, Dinodia took control in the third with an 11-4 win and fought through the fourth for an 11-9 victory.
No. 1 player Todd Harrity took care of business at No. 1, but both Hoffman and junior Dylan Ward (No. 4) were pushed to a fifth game after both held 2-0 leads. As has been the case all season, Princeton players dug deep and won the critical points; both Hoffman and Ward earned wins, with Hoffman's providing the decisive fifth victory.
