Women's Hockey Upended at Quinnipiac, 4-0
HAMDEN, Conn. (12/8/12) - A three-goal second period lifted the Quinnipiac women's hockey team to a 4-0 win over Princeton on Saturday, Dec. 8 at TD Bank Sports Center. Princeton netminder Kimberly Newell stopped 15 shots in the first period, as the Tigers were outshot 15-5. The Bobcats finally broke Newell at 3:41 of the second when Kelly Babstock found Nicole Brown for the goal. Quinnipiac capitalized on its third power-play opportunity at 18:24 when Erica Uden Johansson put away a pass from Nicole Kosta, with Regan Boulton. Babstock scored her league-leading 20th goal, unassisted with just 17 seconds remaining in the second period. Brittany Lyons sealed the win with a goal from Nicole Connery at 19:34 of the final period. Newell finished the game with 44 saves, the second most in her career. Victoria Vigilante made 21 saves in the win for Quinnipiac. Quinnipiac outshot Princeton 48-21 and improved to 12-7-2 overall and 8-3-1 in the league. Princeton falls to 5-9-2 overall and 2-8-2 in the ECAC. The Tigers will take a three-week break and will resume play on Jan. 2 & 3 with a series at Connecticut. Head coach Jeff Kampersal and Newell will be absent on the trip, as both will be in Finland for the U18 World Championships.
