Day 1 Results
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (2/23/13) - Junior Damon McLean won the long jump to give the Princeton men's track & field team its first victory at the 2013 Ivy League Heptagaonal Championship on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Harvard.
Princeton is in third place after Day 1 with 25 points. Harvard leads with 32 followed by Cornell with 31. Dartmouth is fourth with 20.50 followed by Columbia with seven, Yale with 5.5, Penn with two and Brown with one.
Mclean jumped to 7.55 (24-9.25) on his fourth attempt to win
the long jump. Junior Tom Hopkins finished in third place at 7.26 (23-10) on
his first jump of the day. The pair gave the Tigers 16 points towards the team
score.
Hopkins will compete in tomorrow's 400 as well after
qualifying along with senior Austin Hollimon today in the prelims.
Junior Chris Bendtsen was the runner-up in the 3000.
Bendtsen crossed the line at 8:07.01. Senior Michael Franklin earned a point
for the Tigers as well as he finished sixth t 8:10.60.
Sophomore Stephen Soerens is in first place in the
heptathlon after four events. He has collected 3049 points (9th in the 60, 1st
in long jump, 3rd in shot put, 2nd in high jump. Junior Brad Pelisek is in
third place and senior Richard Sheldon is in fifth place. Day two consists of
the hurdles, pole vault and 1000.
Sheldon will also compete in the finals of the 60-meter
hurdles, along with freshman Gregory Caldwell and sophomore Rob Mohr.
Senior Russell Dinkins will be Princeton's lone competitor
in the 500 but he boasts the top time in the prelims at 1:03.26. Sophomore
Bradley Paternostro is in the same situation in the 800, with the best time of
the afternoon at 1:50.51.
Seniors Peter Callahan and Michael Palmisano have qualified
for the final of the men's mile. Freshmen Dre Nelson and John Hill both advance
to the final of the 60.
Junior Michael Williams, freshman David Pugliese and senior
Nathan Mathabane all qualified for the finals of the 1000.
Day 2 continues tomorrow at 10 a.m., with the continuation
of the hepathlon.
