Final Stats

Princeton had been down six and now was down just one, and now its best player hit the pipe. And then hit the pipe again.

And that in a nutshell is Princeton's Ivy League season.

Princeton rallied furiously against Harvard, only to fall short 9-8 in front of 2,743 at Harvard Stadium. The loss, coupled with wins by Penn over Dartmouth and Cornell over Brown, eliminated Princeton from Ivy League tournament contention.

Princeton trailed 7-1 late in the second quarter before rallying, only to fall just short. Tom Schreiber hit two pipes in the final four minutes, and Harvard goalie Jake Gambitsky kicked away a shot from Jake Froccaro with 1:18 to play to preserve the win.

Princeton is now 2-3 in the Ivy League with only its regular-season finale against Cornell at Bethpage High School next Saturday. All three of Princeton's Ivy League losses are by one goal, 16-15 to Yale, 11-10 to Brown and now 9-8 to Harvard.

Schreiber was held without a point for the first time since the Villanova game his freshman year and only the second time of his career.

Princeton led 1-0 after Kip Orban's goal 52 seconds into the game, but Princeton would not score again for a 26:16 stretch, by which time Harvard led 7-1.

Ryan Ambler scored from Jake Froccaro with 2:52 to go in the half to make it 7-2 at the break, and Princeton would hold Harvard to just two after intermission. Eric Sanschagrin made 13 saves, including three huge ones in the fourth quarter, to give Princeton a chance.

Ambler finished with three goals, Orban had two and Froccaro had one goal and three assists. Mike MacDonald made it a 9-8 game with 5:46 left on an assist from Zach Currier, and Princeton would have six more shots, including the two by Schreiber that hit the pipe and the one by Froccaro that Gambitsky saved.
