The Princeton men's volleyball team outlasted NJIT through a marathon first set and ran its win streak to five matches with a 3-0 home win over the Highlanders Tuesday night in Dillon Gym.

The victory moves Princeton within a half game of first place in the EIVA, and it also puts the Tigers back at the .500 mark overall for the first time this season. After losing its first five matches, Princeton has won six of its last seven, including its current streak of five straight.

Tuesday's victory over NJIT took plenty of work, especially in an extended opening set. Princeton killed off four set balls before a kill by Devin Stearns evened the set at 30-30. Freshman Chris Kennedy, the reigning OffTheBlock National Freshman of the Week, took care of the final two points on his own, stringing together back-to-back aces to clinch a 32-30 win.

While the final two sets would be competitive, Princeton was able to take control late and finished the match with 25-20 and 25-21 victories. The Tigers are now 5-1 in the EIVA, a half match behind both Penn State and Harvard. The Crimson will come to Princeton Saturday at 4 pm, which follows Friday's 7 pm showdown with Sacred Heart.

Stearns led Princeton with 15 kills and hit .429, while junior Cody Kessel added 11 kills in the win. Junior middle Cody Kessel had five blocks, three kills and three service aces, while freshman middle Junior Oboh had five kills and three blocks.

Kennedy paced the offense with 37 assists and added eight digs, while junior Tony Ensbury led the defense with 11 digs. Senior Jeff Stapleton came off the bench and added four kills without an error.
