Day 2 (8:25 p.m.) - What a race by Michael Franklin! Franklin runs 29:42.34 to finish fifth in the nation in the men's 10k. He was up in the front for the first few laps and then made himself comfortable inside the big pack. With about six laps remaining the race starting to slow a bit and the athletes started breaking away from each other. Franklin was steady in the top 12 and turned it on in the final three laps to finish an impressive fifth place, earning All-America honors. Chris Bendtsen started to sag back in the middle of the race and finished 22nd at 31:06.83. He added another lap for good measure, as he slowed up on the final lap and an official told him he had another one left. His finish time showed on the board as he cruised along one more round.

Right before the men's 10k, the 4x400 of Russell Dinkins, Austim Hollimon, Tom Hopkins and Daniel McCord finished seventh in heat 2 at 3:09.84 and 22nd overall.

Tomorrow it's junior Imani Oliver in the women's triple jump - the final Tiger to compete this weekend.

Day 2 (4:57 p.m.) - Greta Feldman had her bubble burst as she is the last one out of qualifying for the finals. She was fifth in heat 2, the slower heat, and 13th overall at 4:18.25. She took the lead after 400 and was in second place at the bell. She looked to be a lock for the top five, but a big kick by two runners in the home stretch pushed her into sixth place. The next two fastest times came in the first heat. Feldman does earn second-team All-America honors. The 4x400 is next at 6:40 p.m.

Day 2 (2:50 p.m.) - Back again at Historic Hayward Field. Another gorgeous day - sunny and 80 degrees. Tigers spent the morning preparing for their races, physically and mentally. Coach Farrell said sometimes having so much time before a race can get in your head. You start to overthink things and nerves build up. Greta Feldman, rocking a great double braid, seems ready to go as she just arrived at the field. She runs first at 4:30 p.m., in the semifinals of the women's 1500. Feldman is the top returner from last year's final, with seven back again this year. The 4x400 races at 6:40 p.m., with Russell Dinkins, Austin Hollimon looking for redemption from yesterday and are joined by Tom Hopkins and Daniel McCord. And finally Chris Bendtsen and Michael Franklin take on the 10k in the final event of the day at 7:15 p.m.

Funny story from last night. On the elevator at the hotel a male athlete with Texas burnt orange shorts gets on with an ice bucket, tells the other people, who he knew on the elevator he had to go ice his hand. The people get off and I ask him "what event did you compete in today?" He replies "the shot put." I asked, "how did it go?" He says "it went pretty well." I'm inquisitive so I followed-up with "how'd you do" He says "Good. I won." Awesome. Just nonchalant, humble.
