Guided by seven scoreless Kevin Link innings and an Alex Flink ninth inning RBI single, the Princeton baseball team defeated Stetson, 2-1, to earn its first win of 2013. The Tigers (1-6) were unable to sweep Saturday's doubleheader against the Hatters, falling by an identical 2-1 score to close out the day.

Over his seven frames, senior Link struck out three and allowed only three hits and two walks in 28 batters faced. Despite his solid work on the mound, the righty ends with the no decision because Stetson tied things up in the eighth inning.

Princeton carried a 1-0 lead through eight frames off a Mike Ford RBI single up the middle in the first.

The Tigers had six of their nine hits between the second through ninth innings, but they were unable to capitalize on their offensive production and left all six batters on base.

Tyler Foote (1-0) came in the eighth and put his leadoff batter on third off a walk and consecutive wild pitches. With runners on the corners, James Rasmussen sent a single up the middle and tied the game up 1-1.

Unyielding to its fate the night before in extra innings, Princeton took advantage of its chances in the top of the ninth. Pinch runner Alec Keller reached second on a failed pickoff attempt and Flink, who went 4-for-4, hit the game-winning RBI single up the middle to send Keller home.

Game Two

It was another tight defensive battle, but one that went in favor of the Hatters off a two-run sixth inning in game two.

Starting pitcher Michael Fagan struck out five over his five scoreless innings, but Princeton was unable to provide run support only tallying one hit during that span.

The bottom of the sixth saw Stetson score twice on two hits and an error.

The Tigers' bats remained quiet until the ninth. Peter Owens led off with a single and was advanced to third on a Danny Hoy single. Owens broke up the shutout on a Ford double play, but Princeton only had one more base runner before its third out to close out the day.

The final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
