After a tough sweep at the hands of Cornell on its own Cayuga Inlet during the Carnegie Cup rivalry, the Princeton heavyweights have a chance to make a final impression on the EARC when they host Brown Saturday morning for the Content Cup.
This is a big opportunity to affect seeding, as Brown currently ranks above Princeton in the latest EARC seed polls in both the varsity eight and second varsity. Both are next to each other in the freshman eight poll, and the Brown 3V is ranked atop the EARC poll. The Brown varsity eight is ranked second to Harvard.
Racing is scheduled to begin at 9 am, with the varsity showdown likely to take place at 9:45. The heavyweights will be the first on Lake Carnegie during a busy morning, which will also include both women’s programs.
Brown leads the all-time series 10-8, though Princeton ended a four-year drought last year by topping Brown by 2.6 seconds.
While both Princeton and Yale came into last weekend sharing the fifth spot in the latest USRowing men’s varsity eight poll, it was the 11th-ranked Cornell Big Red which reclaimed the historic Carnegie Cup. The Big Red finished in 6:00.7, 3.9 seconds faster than second-place Princeton. Yale took third in 6:11.3.
The win moves Cornell within two of Princeton in the all-time Carnegie Cup rivalry. The Tigers still lead the series, which dates back to 1911, with 36 victories.
