McLean Makes Jamaican Commonwealth Games National Team

Damon McLean '14 has been selected to the Jamaican national team that will compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is said to be on course to be one of the most memorable Commonwealth Games ever. More than 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 countries will compete in 17 sports over 11 days, from July 23-August 3.

McLean won the national title in the triple jump at the Jamaican nationals last weekend with a PR of 16.15, but was not guaranteed a spot on the team. He was notified about his inclusion on July 1.

McLean joins 2014 NCAA women's hammer throw champion Julia Ratcliffe '16 who is representing New Zealand.

About the Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games is an international, multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930 and has taken place every four years. The games are described as the third largest multi-sport event in the world, after the Olympic Games and the Asian Games. There are 53 members of the Commonwealth of Nations, but 70 teams participate including a number of British overseas territories, Crown dependencies and island states.
