Men's Track Set to Defend Title at 119th Running of the Penn Relays

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/24/13) - The Princeton track and field teams will compete at the 119th running of the Penn Relays Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April 27 at Franklin Field.

The women's team will compete in the majority if its events on Thursday, beginning with the high jump, pole vault, hammer and 400-meter hurdles at 10 a.m. The men will begin competition on Thursday with the steeplechase at 7:50 p.m.

Princeton will also compete in at the TCNJ Invitational April 26-27.

Princeton has chosen not to enter the men's 4xMile, an event that the Tigers have won the last two years. They will try to defend their title in the DMR.

Last year the DMR of senior Joe Stilin, sophomore Tom Hopkins, sophomore Michael Williams and Donn Cabral posted a time of 9:42.45 to win the race. Stilin started the relay off with a 2:59 in 1200 meters, before Hopkins ran one lap in 46.3 for the second leg. Williams ran 1:51.4 in 800 meters and Cabral anchored with a 4:05.8 in the final 1600 meters. Cabral, Stilin and Williams made up three of the four legs of the winning 4xMile as well. Joined by senior Trevor Van Ackeren the relay ran 16:16.79. Williams started off with a 4:12 and Stilin ran 4:02.8 in the second leg. Van Ackeren ran the third leg in 4:02.1 and Cabral ran the anchor in 3:59.9.

In the center of the track, sophomore Damon McLean recorded the second-best mark in program history in the triple jump. McLean reached 15.88 (52-1.25) to set a new personal best to finish as the runner-up in the event. Freshman Adam Bragg was the runner-up in the College pole vault clearing 4.95 (16-2.75)

The women's 4x400 relay set a program record to get Penn Relays underway. The relay ran 3:41.07, 1.30 faster than the previous record set in 1982. Sophomore Carrie Vuong kick started the relay with a split of 56.9, while senior Eileen Moran and freshman Cecilia Barowski both ran 53.9 in the middle legs. Senior Joie Hand followed up with a 56.1 in the last leg.

The Tigers were fifth in the Distance Medley Relay Championship of America. Sophomore Molly Higgins, senior Danielle Glaeser, sophomore Kacie O'Neil and Feldman ran 11:13.40. Glaeser ran an incredible 57.0 in the second leg and O'Neil ran 2:08.6 in the third. Higgins ran the first in 3:29.1 and Feldman ran the final leg at 4:38.7.

The 4x800 finished fourth in the Championship of America race with a time of 8:42.48.  O'Neil led off with a 2:10.1. Junior Alexis Mikaelian ran 2:10.5 in the second leg and passed off to Higgins who ran 2:13.2 in the third leg. Feldman anchored with a time of 2:08.7.

In the field events, sophomore Imani Oliver posted a Princeton record with a new personal best in the triple jump. Oliver jumped to 12.50 (41-0.25) to finish second in the Eastern triple jump. Junior Lauren Tauscher cleared 3.65 (11-11.75) to take fourth in the college pole vault, the best mark by a non-BCS school.
