Michael Franklin and Julia Ratcliffe of the Princeton track & field teams have been honored by HepsTrack by receiving athlete of the week honors.
Franklin earns the men's athlete of the week. Franklin didn't just lead his Tigers to an impressive 1-2-3-4-5 sweep of the 3,000-meter run on Saturday night at The Armory's NYRR College Night at the Races, he posted the nation's best time of 8:07.88. That time is nearly a 10-second personal best for Franklin. Just missing out on the award, by virtue of Franklin’s U.S. No. 1 ranking, was teammate Tom Hopkins, who won three events last weekend at the Navy dual meet and two more at The Armory this past weekend.
Ratcliffe shares the women's rookie of the week honor, her second straight honor from HepsTrack. Ratcliffe, the nation's top freshman thrower, launched another Heps' record at a quad meet with St. John's, Rutgers and St. Joseph's. Her best weight throw of the season sailed 19.69 meters (64-7.25). The Heps' record entering the season was 19 inches shorter.
