Princeton freshman Alanna Wolff and junior Zack McCourt won their way to the Round of 16 with a pair of wins Friday at the Lakewood Ranch clay court tournament in Sarasota, Fla.

The pair are two of four members of the Princeton men's and women's tennis program in Florida for the event, along with Mohamed El Tonbari and Sivan Krems. The four ended up in the black for the day as a group, with six total wins and four losses.

Wolff opened the tournament with Britney Sanders of Notre Dame, the 32-player tournament's top seed and ranked No. 35 in the nation, as a potential second-round opponent, but that's not the way it played out. Wolff beat Stefanie Mikesz of Memphis by rallying from a first-set blanking to win 0-6, 6-3, 6-1, and then took advantage of Timea Guibe of Mississippi State upsetting Sanders. Wolff gained her place in the quarterfinals with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Guibe and will face Florida's Kourtney Keegan Saturday morning.

Wolff's teammate Sivan Krems gained a first-round win over Memphis' Alyssa Hibbert, but Vanderbilt's Sydney Campbell knocked her out of the draw with a straight-set win.

On the men's side, the big win of the day went to McCourt, who ousted Virginia's Harrison Richmond, ranked 51st in the nation and seeded second of the 32 men in the draw, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. That came after McCourt beat Florida Gulf Coast's Christopher Perrigan in straight sets. Teammate Mohamed El Tonbari was a game away from knocking off Virginia's Luca Corinteli in the first round, but Corinteli won the last five games in the third set to stave off the upset and win 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. El Tonbari rebounded with a consolation win over North Florida's Bernardo Craviero and will play a consolation quarterfinal match Saturday. McCourt will continue his play with a quarterfinal match Saturday against Duke's Bruno Semenzato.

Both of Princeton's doubles teams were defeated in the first round of the 16-duo draw Friday. Princeton's complete results are below, and updated draws are available at the tournament page here.
