No. 18 Women's Water Polo Splits Day Two Action at SDSU Invite
On the final day of action at the Aztec Invitational, the No. 18 Princeton women's water polo team defeated Pacific, 10-6, before coming up short against eighth-ranked San Diego State, 9-7,
In the game, Princeton managed to create a three-goal cushion after the first two quarters and capitalized on its six ejections drawn to hold UOP off from finding the momentum to take control. On the defensive end, Kristen Ward notched six saves, while Kelly Gross and Zwirner made a pair of steals.
Against tournament host SDSU, the Aztecs jumped out with a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and from that point the Tigers were playing catch up. San Diego State, the highest ranked opponent faced this season, was up 9-4 heading into the fourth quarter. Princeton rallied back with three goals in the final eight minutes of play, but it was not enough to even the score and send the game into extra minutes.
Princeton (19-2 overall, 2-0 Southern) will conclude its Golden State road swing at Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, Mar. 20. The Tigers take on No. 4 Arizona State at 6 p.m. ET and Azusa Pacific at 10 p.m. ET.
